Oakland Uncorked to celebrate region’s wines, food, culture and entertainment

An evening of fun, fine wines and culinary fare awaits participants at Oakland Uncorked, an annual event that showcases the talents of local restaurants, wine distributors and artists.

This year’s event is scheduled from 7-10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7 at the Oakland County Market, 2350 Pontiac Lake Road in Waterford.

“Oakland Uncorked is a unique wine and food tasting experience,” Jeremy Brown, Oakland County Market manager, said. “At the market we are all about featuring local produce, products and artisans. Oakland Uncorked fits right in with our mission to highlight all we have to offer right here in Oakland County.”

With the natural, open-air atmosphere of the Oakland County Market as a charming backdrop, local distributors will pour more than 50 of their vineyards’ finest wines for tasting and 16 area restauranteurs will offer samples of their signature dishes, including Ocean Prime, Forest Grill, Roadside B&G, So Thai Restaurant, Dorsey Culinary Academy, Peabody’s Restaurant, Gino’s, Back Court Restaurant, Heroe’s Bar-BQ & Brew, Irish Tavern, Downtown 51 Grille, Katherine’s Catering, bd’s Mongolian Grill, Detroit Seafood Partners, O’Malley’s Galley and Via Bologna.

The Scott Gwinnell jazz quartet will perform and attendees will have the opportunity to speak with local artists and purchase artwork if they wish.

New is the addition of a dozen local craft beers. Michigan has emerged as a destination for the craft beer community and Oakland County has many excellent offerings to share.

Oakland Uncorked is hosted by the Oakland County Market, Clarkston SCAMP and Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce. A portion of the proceeds benefit SCAMP, a summer day camp for children and young adults with special needs. Other sponsors include Oakland County Credit Union, Genisys Credit Union, Waterford Township Treasurer Margaret Birch, Studio 8 Fitness, Richard J. Baker DDS and Ideas for You.

Cost is $45 per person and attendees must be 21 or older. Reservations are required as space is limited. Tickets can be purchased at WaterfordChamber.org or by calling (248) 666-8600.
