CMLF celebrates Cinco de Mayo and serving the community

Centro Multicultural La Familia (CMLF) is celebrating Cinco de Mayo with an event at the Oakland County Market on May 2 to recognize individuals for their contributions to  the community.  This year CMFL honors Jack Weiner of St. Joseph Hospital, Lon Bone of Genisys Credit Union and Margarita Ovalle from Gleaners Food Center. The emcee for the evening will be Lupe Lara, new Director of the Consortium of Hispanic Agencies of Southwest Detroit. The evening will be filled with delicious Mexican food, Hispanic art exhibits, Mexican bingo games, piñata making and breaking (adults), a silent auction, food demonstrations, and beautiful dance performances by Raices Morenas de Macomb.
“We are very grateful to all our sponsors, staff, and planning committee members”, stated Dr. Sonia Acosta, CMLF CEO. Many of our clients are uninsured and are traditionally underserved. The proceeds will help to provide an opportunity for our clients to receive culturally and linguistically-sensitive services from the only fully bilingual and bicultural mental health and substance abuse program in Oakland County.
