Lawrence Tech offers summer biomedical engineering camp

Lawrence Technological University

will hold a five-day biomedical engineering camp for high school students the week of July 11—15. It is one of a dozen enrichment summer camps designed for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors interested in technology, science and design. The cost is $500 for day campers and $665 for residential campers.

Campers will explore the role of a biomedical engineer in designing procedures and equipment that assist in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease and injury. These professionals can make medical testing less intrusive and enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities.

Team projects will acquaint high school students with basic engineering design tools and the instrumentation used in medical settings.

The studios and laboratories of Lawrence Tech’s Southfield campus will be utilized by the enrichment camps. The instructors will be Lawrence Tech faculty and staff. Students who choose to live on campus during the camps will eat in the cafeteria and participate in organized activities in the evenings. The top students in each camp will be eligible for scholarships to Lawrence Tech.
