Farbman Group, a full-service real estate company in Southfield, has announced its commitment to investing in DTE Energy’s MIGreenPower program, a voluntary renewable energy program.

Farbman Group is one of the first businesses in the MIGreenPower program, alongside Ford Motor Co., General Motors Co., The Detroit Zoological Society, and the University of Michigan. The collaboration will significantly impact the 25 million square feet of buildings owned by the firm once it has completely transitioned to 100 percent renewable energy.

“As an owner and operator of hundreds of buildings across the state of Michigan, Farbman Group is always looking for ways to reduce its environmental impact,” says Andrew Farbman, CEO of Farbman Group. “Our company is extremely proud to be one of the first businesses to invest in DTE Energy’s MIGreenPower program, resulting in a significantly reduced carbon footprint through wind and solar energy generated right in our own backyard.”

MIGreenPower helps DTE electric customers reduce their carbon footprint by supporting the development of renewable energy projects across Michigan. Customers who enroll in the program can customize their participation and attribute up to 100 percent of their energy use to local wind farms and solar parks.

“We are honored that the Farbman Group, one of the Midwest’s leading commercial real estate companies, has enrolled in MIGreenPower to help meet its sustainability goals,” says Trevor Lauer, president of DTE Energy’s electric company. “We know that our customers are looking for ways to reduce their impact on the environment, and MIGreenPower is a cost effective and efficient means to gain more access to renewable energy.

“Strong customer – both business and residential – participation in MIGreenPower is accelerating renewable energy development in Michigan, which helps our economy and reduces carbon emissions. DTE will invest an additional $2 billion in renewable assets over the next three years. To date, our clean energy projects have created more than 4,000 Michigan jobs.”

DTE Energy is a Detroit-based diversified energy company. Its electric company serves 2.2 million customers in southeast Michigan, and its natural gas company serves 1.3 million customers in Michigan.

Farbman Group was founded in 1976.
