Rockne Van Meter, award-winning master brewer at Bastone Brewery in Royal Oak, recently racked up two more awards for the establishment, which is perhaps unsurprising for a man who admits he even dreams about beer.
“I think about it a lot,” he said, recalling one dream about fermentation temperatures.
Van Meter’s brews competed against nearly 5,000 international beers in the 2016 U.S. Open Beer Championship in Oxford, Ohio. Last week, winners were announced and his Private Stock #613, a traditional Belgian/French style saison made with white wine aged in oak, won a gold medal. A bronze medal was awarded to Van Meter’s Dubbel Vision, a traditional Belgian-style dubbel beer.
