This Valentine's Day, skip the old dinner-and-a-movie – not that we don’t love both dinner and movies, but why not mix it up a bit? There are plenty of activities and events going on all around Oakland County so you can make this special day a little more, well…special!
2/11: CIS After Dark: Love After Dark at the Cranbrook Institute of Science
Anthropologist Cameron Wood talks about scandalous romances throughout history; Homestead Honey discusses the "birds and the bees" (but mostly just bees), and Stephanie Tong talks about dating in the digital age.

2/12-13: Parents Night Out in Rochester & Rochester Hills, Clarkston, Madison Heights, Auburn Hills, and Wixom
Oakland County Moms has a great list of family-friendly Valentine's weekend activities, and that includes "Parents Night Out," when mom and dad can drop the kids off safely at a venue where they will play and be entertained while parents have a much-needed solo date night. Parents Night Out venues include a gymnastics gym, a house filled with Legos and robotics, a nature center and planetarium, and other places designed to keep kids entertained and at play.
2/14: Stroll With Your Sweetheart in Farmington Hills
Starting at the Farmington Hills Nature Center in Heritage Park, Stroll with Your Sweetheart will take visitors through the park, with ice candles lighting the path, while a naturalist shares the courtship behavior of the park's nocturnal animals.
2/14: Love Gone Wild at the Detroit Zoo
An entertaining look at the dating and mating strategies of the Zoo's animals, with hors d'oeuvres and drinks.

2/14: Oakland Symphony Orchestra 19th Annual David Daniels Young Artists Concert
The Oakland Symphony Orchestra will offer a program to include Passacaglia, op. 1 by Anton Webern; and Symphony No. 1 in B-flat major, op. 38 (Spring) by Robert Schumann. The David Daniels Young Artists concert, an annual highlight of our season, will feature solo performances by the winners of the 2015-16 Oakland University Concerto Competition.

View the myriad of art created by the adult students at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center and even buy your own affordable piece to take home. This juried show also awards over $2,000 in cash and gift cards.
2/20: Whiskey Business at the Royal Oak Farmers Market
True this is coming a little bit after Valentine's Day, but for the whiskey lovers out there, there is nothing more romantic, featuring over 100 whiskeys from around the world.

2/4-7: Avenue Q at Stagecrafters, Royal Oak
This Tony Award-winning musical features puppets behaving badly in delightfully irreverent ways.
2/4-14: Faust(US) at Oakland University
A modern adaption of the classic deal-with-the-devil story.

2/12: Date Night at GO Comedy! in Ferndale
An improvised romantic comedy!
2/12-28: Rossum's Universal Robots at Slipstream Theatre, Ferndale
Puzzle Piece Theatre brings a fresh take on the classic Rossum's Universal Robots. The robot revolution and fight for equality is here, complete with science fiction B-movie camp and steampunk visuals.
2/13: The Dinner Detective – Interactive Murder Mystery Show, Troy
Held at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Troy, The Dinner Detective is America's largest murder mystery dinner show. Enjoy a four-course dinner and solve a murder mystery lead by Detroit's top comedic talent. The laughs are real, though the crime isn't!
Through 2/27: The All Star Showdown at GO Comedy! in Ferndale
One part "Whose Line is it Anyway?" and one part "Match Game PM," this is one of GO's flagship shows.
Through 2/28: The Odd Couple at the Tipping Point Theatre, Northville
This update to Neil Simon's comedy classic features female leads in the iconic roles.
