Rochester’s $7.6 million downtown makeover is the theme of December’s Oakland County Planners’ Gathering. The event is set for Dec. 7 at 11:30 a.m. at the Iroquois Club, 42348 N. Woodward in Bloomfield Township. The cost is $20 per person and includes lunch.
The Rochester Main Street Makeover, a joint effort of the Michigan Department of Transportation, the city of Rochester and the Rochester Downtown Development Authority (DDA), is a $7.6 million project to reconstruct a half-mile of Main Street (M-150/Rochester Road), improve water service to the area and to add streetscape improvements to enhance the overall downtown experience. In anticipation of the pending construction, inconvenience for drivers and impact on businesses, the city and DDA took steps to mitigate the economic and community impact on the city and downtown.
Rochester City Manager Jaymes Vettraino, DDA Executive Director Kristi Trevarrow and Nik Banda, director of economic and community development, will give an overview of the project, discuss how Rochester planned and prepared for the construction, lessons learned, interesting items unearthed and how much they are looking forward to the holidays.
The Planners’ Gathering is a quarterly luncheon, networking and speaker series regarding community development issues. For more than three decades, Planners’ Gatherings have attracted individuals from various backgrounds who wish to learn ways of improving the built and natural environment in their communities. It is hosted by the Planning Group within the Oakland County Department of Economic Development & Community Affairs.
