Food Network enthusiasts and philanthropists alike gathered for the Baker Tilly Iron Chef Competition in Rochester Hills, a take-no-prisoners cooking battle benefiting Gleaner’s Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. The event was sponsored by Baker Tilly, an accounting firm in Oakland County.
The stakes were high — the dueling chefs, Jaime Kalmus, the executive chef of Zazio’s in Birmingham, and Jeremy Kalmus, the executive chef of No. VI Chophouse in Novi, are also brothers. Similar to Iron Chef, the secret ingredient (tomato) was introduced only minutes before the competition began. Judges agreed the desserts — tomato-infused puff pastry and a tomato French toast — were the stars of the show.
Brother Jeremy edged out Jaime by one point, taking home a commemorative Baker Tilly cast iron frying pan and eternal bragging rights.
