Rochester’s Avon Players Community Theatre will celebrate its 65
th birthday with an upcoming season of diverse classics ranging from comedy to horror.
Plays include “Sound of Music,” “Frankenstein,” “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” “Mixed Nuts” and “The Secret Garden.”
The volunteer organization attributes their longstanding success to the high quality of entertainment for an affordable price.
“We have free parking and donated concessions, so that everyone can enjoy the live theater experience. It’s a tremendous entertainment value,” explained Vice President of Membership, Tina Peterson.
“Sound of Music” will kick off the season beginning Sept 9. Tickets for all of the plays are available at the Avon Players box office, 1185 Washington, Rochester Hills, 248-608-9077, or can be purchased at www.avonplayers.org.
“The Avon Players Theatre has been a hidden gem where people develop and explore their talents,” said Vice President of Finance Marlaina Jurco. “Anyone can participate, and our auditions are open. We’ve always been a 100 percent volunteer organization. It’s a wonderful experience for anyone wishing to learn about the theater.”
