WA3 Awarded Champions in Action Grant

Woodward Avenue Action Association (WA3) has been named a Michigan 2011
Champion in Action winner by Charter One and WXYZ-TV. Recognized as the
champion of Neighborhood Revitalization, other 2011 Champion in Action
categories include Economic Development, Food and Nutrition, and
Homelessness.

Winners received a $25,000 grant in unrestricted funds from the Charter
One Foundation.

WA3 Executive Director Heather Carmona accepted the award at a
presentation hosted by La Dolce Vita Restaurant. In addition to the
grant, WA3 also received promotional support in all of Michigan’s
Charter One branches and ATMs as well as exposure on both Charter One’s
and WXYZ-TV 7’s websites.

“The Woodward Avenue Action Association is a wonderful example of the
great things that are happening in Southeastern Michigan,” said Sandra
Pierce, President of Charter One, Michigan.

The Champions in Action program was launched in November 2005 to
recognize and support nonprofit organizations that accomplish positive
change in local communities. The WA3 is the 22nd organization to receive
the award since the program began.
