Enjoy Winter Fun at Oakland County Parks and Recreation This December

Take time to slow down, relax and enjoy outdoor nature this winter. Explore the nearly 80 miles of trails at the 13 Oakland County Parks, view wildlife at the nature centers or leisurely shop at the Oakland County Farmers Market. Enjoy these upcoming activities offered through Oakland County Parks and Recreation:

Dec. 24

  • During Oakland County Parks and Recreation Appreciation Day Dec. 24, visitors can enjoy free daily park entry with access to natural areas, trails, dog parks and all park amenities at Addison Oaks County Park, Highland Oaks County Park, Independence Oaks County Park, Lyon Oaks County Park and Dog Park, Orion Oaks County Park and Dog Park, Red Oaks Dog Park and Rose Oaks County Park. Park hours are 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset, or as posted at the park.

Dec. 25

  • During Oakland County Parks and Recreation Appreciation Day Dec. 25, visitors can enjoy free daily park entry with access to natural areas, trails, dog parks and all park amenities at Addison Oaks County Park, Highland Oaks County Park, Independence Oaks County Park, Lyon Oaks County Park and Dog Park, Orion Oaks County Park and Dog Park, Red Oaks Dog Park and Rose Oaks County Park. Park hours are 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset, or as posted at the park.

Dec. 26

  • Oakland County Parks and Recreation’s Christmas tree recycling program runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 26-Jan. 26. Follow the drop-off signs at the following Christmas tree recycling sites: Addison Oaks County Park, Catalpa Oaks County Park, Glen Oaks Golf Course, Groveland Oaks County Park, Independence Oaks County Park-North, Lyon Oaks County Park, Oakland County Farmers Market, Orion Oaks County Park, Red Oaks Golf Course, Springfield Oaks County Park and White Lake Oaks Golf Course. In return for recycling a Christmas tree, the Oakland Conservation District will distribute free white pine seedlings from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2020 at 1580 Scott Lake Road, Waterford. There is no charge to drop off trees. However, no commercial trees will be accepted and plastic, tinsel and wire must be removed before drop off. Details: DestinationOakland.com.
