Lyon Township Winterfest set for Saturday, January 19

A Saturday of wintertime fun is in store at the Lyon Township Winterfest celebration taking place in and around New Hudson, and 

South Lyon on Saturday, January 19, 2013.  Wintry activities run from 9:00 A.M. until 5:30 P.M. 

The Lyon Township Winterfest will offer a variety of events, including sled dog rides by the Mid-Union Sled Haulers (MUSH) – $5 per rider, with a maximum of 100 lbs. per child, ice skating, figure skating demonstrations,  a hockey goal shoot off, an igloo building competition, Winter Healthcare Clinic and other kids activities such as the kids fun zone and games, Go-Cache treasure hunt and GO-Snowshoe by Oakland County Parks and Recreation, old fashioned jump rope making and a Winter Animal Care Clinic. Non-stop entertainment will be featured throughout the day to include a magician and music provided by a DJ. Special prizes will be awarded to participants throughout the day.  

A “Chili Cook-Off” will be held where restaurants are invited to enter their very best recipe and win the coveted title and bragging rights for, “Best of the Lyon Township Winterfest 2013.” A panel of area personalities will judge the cook-off, in addition to attendees that can taste test samples for $1 with proceeds going to Active Faith which provides long term and temporary assistance to those who have fallen on difficult times.
 
The Lyon Township Winterfest will kick-off with a family style breakfast at 9:00 A.M. to be held at the Lyon Township Fire Department – Station #1 located at 58800 Grand River Avenue in New Hudson beginning at 9:00 A.M. with proceeds also going to local families in need. 
 
With the help of the Lyon Township community, organizations like the South Lyon Chamber of Commerce and Platinum sponsoring companies such as Walmart, and Brenda W. Smith and Company, PC and CPA’s, the Lyon Township Winterfest will give families an opportunity to enjoy themselves at a winter community festival for little cost.
 
The Lyon Township’s James Atchison Memorial Park is located along the I-96 corridor at Exit 155, behind the Lyon Twp. Hall at 58000 Grand River Avenue in New Hudson.
