Oakland County implements text alerts

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Offices has implemented an email and text message system to alert the community of emergencies.

In keeping up with the times, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office has
implemented an e-mail and text message system to alert community
members of emergencies.

The
system, called Community Alerts, sends mobile messages about crime,
road closures, missing persons and hazardous situations to those who
sign up for them on the county’s Web site.

“Almost
everybody is tethered to the phone, especially young people,” said
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. “We can send them a text
message, that, God
forbid, may save their life.”
