Local filmmakers wow audience at inaugural film festival

More than a 100 people showed up to check out what a bunch of local filmmakers had to say — on film — about the area.

In all there were 16 entries in the first ever 3 Minutes in Lyon Film Festival held over the weekend at the Lyon Theater in South Lyon. The audience members voted on their favorite films, which had to be filmed locally, and chose Scott Thomas’ “Le Gorille Ge’ant” as the Audience Choice Award. In the short film – all the entries had to be three minutes long – a giant, King Kong-like ape walks through the streets of downtown South Lyon, at one point picking up the Witch’s Hat Depot.

There were also awards given in various categories for different age groups. The judges were film festival founder and South Lyon resident Richard Perry, Lise Blades of Lyon Township, who also organized the event, and John Martin of Troy. “Le Gorille Ge’ant” also won in the 23 and Over category.
