Film industry offers state hope as well as revenue

The film industry tax incentives here in Michigan bring more than just revenue to the region, but also hope.

said the show was brought to Michigan rather than Houston, Texas — the
other location option — because of Michigan’s film tax breaks. The
series is expected to create hundreds of jobs for people in Michigan.

That’s the practical, economic side of the tryouts — the boost to the economy.

But
there’s much more to the recent efforts by the state to attract
television and movie producers to Michigan. There’s an intangible
aspect that is badly needed in this state because of its economic woes.

Having
films made in Michigan produces emotions that are a wonderful and
needed diversion. They give people a lift from the abysmal economic
