WITH VIDEO: Oakland County schools reap awards for green activities

Students at Clarkston’s Sashabaw Middle School raised salmon in a tank
of water as part of their ‘green’ activities geared to save the planet.

That
was only one of the activities taken on by the young teens in teacher
Rodney Pierson’s ecology class who won first place in the Michigan Green
Schools Oakland Schools Award Ceremony Wednesday.

Youngsters at
Harlan Elementary in Birmingham wrote letters to protest excessive and
wasteful packaging of toys to make them second-place winner in the
competition. And Oxford’s Clear Lake Elementary, where students recycled
just about everything, was given third-place honors.
