Oxford’s Upland Hills School presents recycled arts contest and festival

Recycled materials will be celebrated in a multitude of mediums, from song to sculpture, at the Recycled Arts Festival/Contest at the Karen Joy Theater of Upland Hills School on Friday, Sept. 23. The event is funded by a grant from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the Oakland County Arts, Culture and Film.

Multi-recycled instrumentalist Billy Jonas will take the Karen Joy Theater stage for a remarkable sonic celebration. His percussion-based family-friendly music is derived from a combination of traditional instruments and found objects — from broom handles to bottles and buckets!

A request for recycled artwork submissions from Oakland County children  is currently underway.  Age divisions are as follows;  4-7, 8-10 and 11-14.  All artwork can be dropped off September 8th and 9th between 4 to 8 p.m. at Upland Hills School.  Prizes will be awarded per age group and presented at the Billy Jonas concert.

The recycled art exhibit begins at 6:00pm in the school, and the concert begins at 7 p.m. Ticket prices for adults are $15 and $10 for students and seniors. The Upland Hills School is located at 2527 Indian Lake Rd. in Oxford. Visit uplandhills.org for more information.
