Oakland County parks invite dogs to make a splash

Red Oaks and Waterford Oaks waterparks invite dogs to enjoy a dip in wave pools at the Bow Wow Dog Swim.

The dog-only swim is Saturday, Sept. 12 at Waterford Oaks Waterpark and Sunday, Sept. 13 at Red Oaks Waterpark. Pet owners are not allowed to swim during the event.

“It is a healthy activity that encourages people to take their dogs out and enjoy our parks and programs,” Lauren Stasiak, Oakland County Parks recreation program supervisor of aquatic health and fitness, said.

There will also be prizes given for the “Best Dog Swimsuit” and “Best Dog Wet Look” contests.

Swimming sessions divided according to dog weight run every hour for 55 minutes from noon — 4:55 p.m.

Dogs may be registered for one time slot only. Pre-registration is required. Cost is $10/dog and includes entry, a doggy bag with giveaways and a T-shirt for the owner.

Owners must show valid Michigan dog license and proof of vaccinations for admittance to the event.

Bow Wow Dog Swim is sponsored by Camp Bow Wow, a premier doggy day and overnight camp in Troy and Clarkston.

Waterford Oaks Waterpark is located at 1702 Scott Lake Road in Waterford. Red Oaks Waterpark is located at 1455 East 13 Mile Road in Madison Heights.
