The Jewish Ensemble Theatre will present Daniel Goldfarb’s Modern Orthodox, a comedic tale of a young Manhattan couple (originally starring Molly Ringwald and Jason Briggs on Broadway) who find their commitments to their faith and each other tested by a mysterious stranger who appears at their door demanding to be given harbor on Shabbat. The stranger, a diamond dealer in a Yankees yarmulke and high-top sneakers, provokes many questions facing young Jewish couples connecting through social networks in the digital age.
Modern Orthodox runs Jan 19 through Feb 13 at the Aaron DeRoy Theatre, in the West Bloomfield Jewish Community Center. Tickets are available by calling (248) 788-2900. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, 5:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Saturdays and 2:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Sundays, with a Wednesday matinee on February 9 at 2:00 p.m.
