A slew of Oakland County schools bring home some hardware at the FIRST Robotics State Championship.
An alliance of teams from Oakland County’s
International Academy, the Newaygo County Regional Educational Service
Agency and Andover and Lahser High Schools in Bloomfield Hills won the
FIRST Robotics State Championship Saturday at Eastern Michigan
University in Ypsilanti.
In front of a raucous crowd of more than 2,000 at EMU’s Convocation
Center, the champions narrowly beat out an alliance of teams from the
Huron Valley schools, Utica Community Schools and Waterford Mott High
The best-of-three championship round actually took four matches — the
first game in the match ended in an 18-18 tie. The winners took the
first game 15-13, and the losing alliance tied it up at one win apiece
in the second game with a 13-8 victory. The winners narrowly took the
fourth game, 14-12, to claim the state title.
