Independence Township Senior Center gardens thriving

Gardeners at the Independence Township Senior Center are harvesting
fresh produce from raised garden beds recently built at the center in
Clintonwood Park.

The raised beds and gardening were the brainchild of Carolyn Morrison and Richard Vogt.

Vogt,
an organic gardener, said he would bring baskets of produce he grew at
home and leave a little tag saying “Compliments of Rotten Richard” for
seniors visiting the center. Vogt said no one knew his name, but they
loved the organic vegetables left by Rotten Richard.

“Organic vegetables have a different flavor than what you buy in the store,” he said.
