Five communities reach an agreement to bring movies to the open air.
After two years of negotiations, South Lyon and several other communities have reached an agreement to share a portable movie screen.
The plan sets the guidelines for officials in Milford and Canton townships and the cities of South Lyon, Northville, and Novi to purchase and reserve a 24-foot-wide outdoor screen for use throughout the year. Each community is paying about $5,700, which covers the screen, generator, trailer to tow it and insurance.
According to South Lyon City Manager David Murphy, Milford Township was the last of the partners to sign off on the deal. With their approval, Murphy ordered the equipment. The city will pay the invoice, and then be reimbursed by the other communities.
“We went ahead and ordered it. We should be getting it in the next two to three weeks,” Murphy said.
