Comerica Bank today announced Holly High School’s Broncho Marching Band as the winner of the March the Park national anthem contest. The band will receive a $5,000 grant for its school’s marching band program, the opportunity to perform the national anthem at Comerica Park for the April 9 Detroit Tigers game, and 130 tickets to the game.
“Band is an important program for our schools. It provides an outlet for students to express their musical talents while teaching discipline, teamwork and other essential life skills,” said Michael T. Ritchie, president, Comerica Bank-Michigan. “I want to congratulate Holly High School’s marching band on their achievement. I look forward to watching them perform at Comerica Park.”
High school marching bands from across southeast Michigan submitted videos of their bands performing the national anthem. Submissions were reviewed by a panel of judges from the Detroit Tigers and Comerica Bank to narrow down the submissions to a group of 10 finalists. Public voting on Comerica Bank’s Facebook page determined the contest winner.
More than 70,000 votes were cast during the nearly two-week public voting period. The Lincoln High School Marching Band finished in second place followed by Roosevelt High School’s Wyandotte Marching Chiefs in third place. This is the fourth year of the national anthem contest. Previous contests have supported local choir groups, as well as police officers, firefighters, military members and veterans from across southeast Michigan.
