Going green is the trend lately, and for good reasons. A Ferndale library is taking that to heart.
Ferndale has always been fashionable. Now it’s going to have a contemporary and “green” library to match.
As construction workers put the finishing touches on an addition at the Ferndale Public Library, library officials are preparing this month to move in and restock shelves in anticipation of a late June opening.
“We are getting ready to move back in, and when we do, it will be pretty cool,” said Library Director Doug Raber.
“The building is just tremendous.”
The $4.5 million addition and face-lift boasts a long list of amenities: a two-story glass atrium on the building front along Nine Mile, a new audio-visual room where patrons can watch a movie on a large screen and a dedicated lab with 40 computers.
The entire building, which grew from 11,000 to 21,000 square feet, will be wireless, and the atrium will have cafe tables so patrons can take their laptops and enjoy the downtown view.
