Fourth of July fireworks celebrations in Oakland County

The kids are out of school. The weather is hot and humid. The Fourth of July is just a few weeks away. We are in the midst of summertime in Metro Detroit, and that means it’s fireworks season!

From the last week of June through the first week of July, the skies all throughout Metro Detroit will light up with fireworks large and small from townships and cities hosting their own displays as part of their annual Independence Day celebrations. There are well over a dozen in Oakland County alone, so get your coolers ready and mark your calendars because it’s time to get into the full swing of summer!

What: Lake Orion Lions Club Jubilee Carnival and Beer Tent
Where: Green’s Park, Lake Orion

Starting Thursday, June 21, the four-day Jubilee in downtown Lake Orion features a DJ on Thursday night and live bands Friday and Saturday, with the fireworks celebration starting at 10pm Saturday night. There are carnival rides and games for the kids and a beer tent for the grown-ups. More details here.

What: The Walled Lake Beach Party
Where: E.V. Mercer Beach, E. Walled Lake Dr.
When: 10pm
From 11am to 11pm, Walled Lake is having a Beach Party with local vendors, food, and live entertainment, culminating in a fireworks display over the lake at 10pm. More details here.

What: Festival of the Hills
Where: Borden Park, Rochester Hills
When: 10pm
Beginning at 6pm, the annual Festival of the Hills will have food, family games, and live entertainment, ending with the grand finale of Michigan’s second-largest fireworks display at 10pm, rain or shine. More details here.

Red Run’s annual fireworks show is a private event for members only, so those fortunate to have a membership can enjoy a much more intimate fireworks viewing experience. For those not quite so fortunate, the display can be seen from surrounding neighborhoods. More details here.

What: Kensington Metropark Fireworks
Where: Kensington Metropark
When: 10pm
The party starts at 5pm with food vendors and the DJ starts at 7pm. You’ll need a Metroparks vehicle permit is required to enter the park, which is $35 for regular annual pass, $21 for a senior annual pass, or $10 for a day pass. More details here.

What: Addison Oaks County Park Fireworks
Where: Leonard
When: 9:30pm
This Fourth of July celebration will be held on the campgrounds at Addison Oaks and will feature patriotic art, a bike parade, bingo, tie-dye, team games, pony rides, inflatables, and live music. Admission to the park is $15 per vehicle after noon or free with 2018 Annual Vehicle Permit. More details here.

Have fun with pony rides, inflatables, a clown, a magic show, patriotic art, a bike parade, bingo, tie dying, and dancing to the DJ and live music at Groveland Oaks Park. Admission to the park is $15 per vehicle after noon or free with Annual Vehicle Permit. More details here.

What: White Lake Citizens League Fireworks
Where: White Lake Township

This annual celebration includes a “Christmas in July” boat parade starting at 2:15pm from Mitchell’s Marina. No prior boat registration is needed, but be creative with your decorations! To cap off the evening, the professional fireworks display will launch from two barges on the southern end of White Lake. More details here.

Where: Pelton’s Point, Lake Orion

Watch the dueling fireworks display from one of the best viewing spots on Lake Orion. Tickets are $50 per person and include food, beer, wine, and soft drinks. More details here.

Where: Suburban Collection Showplace, Novi

The annual Stars & Stripes Festival is held all weekend long with an outdoor concert series featuring national rock acts like Buckcherry, P.O.D. Lit, and Alien Ant Farm. There is also a Family Fun Zone, carnival midway, monster truck rides, a petting zoo, an arts and crafts village, and a cornhole tournament. Beginning at 11am with the fireworks display at dusk, Clarkston’s Independence Fest will feature a Fourth of July parade, food, a craft show, live entertainment, a kids’ inflatables and game area, and more. More details here.

Clawson’s annual 4th of July citywide celebration dates back to the 1930s and is quite the summertime spectacle. Events start almost two weeks out, and the Fourth of July itself is packed full of activities and entertainment including a “Firecracker Mile” run with $1,000 in prizes, a parade, an arts and crafts fair, midway games and rides, monster truck rides, live music, a hot dog eating contest, a “Clawson’s best pizza” contest, a water battle between Clawson and Troy fire departments, and fireworks at dusk. The annual Oakland County fair kicks off opening night with a fireworks display.
