Social media spur sales for independent retailers

Using social networking on platforms such as Facebook and Twitter in lieu of running expensive advertising campaigns proved to be a boon for independent retailers this holiday season, and the trend is expected to grow exponentially in 2012. Using Facebook and Twitter to promote in-store products and offers was a great way for independent stores without large advertising budgets to drive traffic and sales, while the “buy local” momentum is also continuing to drive interest in independently-owned stores and is also expected to keep growing this year.
