Birmingham painter knows the eye is the soul of a horse



Like a surgeon operating on a complicated part of the body or a professional violinist about to play the most important notes of a rousing solo, painter Weatherly Stroh is extremely careful as she dabs at the eyes of her horses.

The horses, which star in the majority of her paintings, seem to look back at her happily as they come to life, and then appear to look out to pastoral landscapes or, often, almost into the viewer’s eyes.
