Birmingham business district records net gains in 2010

With the addition of 33 new restaurants and retail stores to the 48009 zip code, 2010 could certainly be called a banner year for Birmingham. With a net gain of 23 new businesses for the year, the city now boasts a 92% downtown occupancy rate and 84% office occupancy rate. Birmingham also recorded its strongest downtown holiday season since 2007 this year.

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson has said he expects Birmingham to thrive for years to come. “If Oakland County is the brightest galaxy in the state of Michigan, then Birmingham is the brightest star in that galaxy,” he said during an event hosted at the Townsend Hotel in October.
